Functional Testing
Nutritional functional testing is a comprehensive approach to assessing an individual's nutritional status and overall health by analyzing various biomarkers in the body. These tests go beyond standard blood tests to provide detailed information about how nutrients are being absorbed, utilized, and excreted, as well as how various systems in the body are functioning.
Key Aspects of Nutritional Functional Testing:
-
Comprehensive Analysis: These tests evaluate a wide range of biomarkers, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids, antioxidants, and metabolites. They can also assess the function of key systems like digestion, detoxification, and hormonal balance.
-
Personalized Nutrition: The results from these tests help in identifying specific nutritional deficiencies, imbalances, or metabolic issues. This allows for personalized dietary and supplement recommendations tailored to an individual's unique needs.
-
Preventive Health: By identifying potential issues early, nutritional functional testing can help prevent chronic diseases and optimize overall health and well-being.
-
Root Cause Approach: Instead of just addressing symptoms, these tests aim to identify and address the underlying causes of health issues related to nutrition and metabolism.

DNA Testing
Armed with knowledge of your genetic code, DNA testing can help you make smarter choices and discover more effective solutions to optimise your health and reach your goals.
DNA testing allows us to better understand a patient’s unique response to different diet, lifestyle and supplement choices (nutrigenetics); as well as their response to certain medications (pharmacogenomics).
The Process
The testing and analysis is billed out at $445.50 per test and the procedure is as follows:
Test ordered from Nutrition By Garrit and paid for in advance.
Test is then ready for pick up from LBA location on next visit by Garrit.
For faster delivery, I can have these shipped to your address. Shipping charges will be applied.
Following the instructions very carefully, you take the cheek swab test and ship via DHL as per instructions in kit at no charge to you.
Results are then sent to my office after approx. 14 days (though 21 days is the current wait time - temporarily - as per the labs).
An online meeting is set for the analysis, and the complete report is sent to you.

Additional Panels for Further Testing, $200 each.

DNA Health reports on genes involved in the following biological areas: Lipid metabolism | Bone health | Methylation and B vitamin requirements | Insulin sensitivity and risk for diabetes | Detoxification, inflammation and oxidative stress | Food responsiveness: gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance, caffeine processing, salt sensitivity and iron overload disorders | Vitamin requirements.

DNA Diet analyses gene variants involved in major areas related to weight management and reports on responsiveness to diet and lifestyle interventions: Obesity risk | Carbohydrate and saturated fat responsiveness | Mono- and poly-unsaturated fat intake and their importance in weight management | Exercise responsiveness | Eating behaviour including satiety and snacking behaviour | Effect of circadian rhythms on weight management.

DNA Mind gives insight into the functioning of biological areas that influence: Neurodegenerative disorders including cognitive decline and late onset Alzheimer’s disease | Addictive behaviour | Mood regulation such as stress response, anxiety and depression.
DNA Oestrogen guides the personalisation of diet, hormone and nutritional supplement recommendations to improve oestrogen metabolism. Unbalanced oestrogen metabolism has been associated with increased risk for breast and ovarian cancer, prostate and colon cancer, as well as endometriosis and PMS symptoms. Gaining insight into how oestrogen and other free radicals are detoxified and cleared from the body will be of benefit to individuals who are concerned about these health issues.

DNA Pain provides insight into key biological pathways that influence chronic pain. Offers personalised diet, nutraceutical, exercise and lifestyle recommendations for improved chronic pain and management.

DNA Sport analyses genes which have been shown to have significant associations with the following areas: Soft tissue injury risk | Recovery | Power potential | Endurance potential | Caffeine metabolism | Salt sensitivity | Peak performance time.
DNA Skin analyses genes which have been shown to have significant associations with the following areas: Firmness and elasticity | Sun sensitivity and pigmentation | Sun damage, protection and repair | Antioxidant status | Detoxification and inflammation.
Medcheck is our pharmacogenomics test which analyses gene variants that affect drug response. These variants determine how you are likely to respond to certain medications, both in terms of therapeutic benefit and risk for side effects, allowing your doctor to make personalised prescriptions where necessary. Medcheck reports on more than 150 different prescription medications. Choosing your DNAlysis test DNAlysis tests analyse gene variants involved in key biological areas that govern health and disease.
